Garden Workshop with Club Members 2-18-11

On Friday, February 18th the Club hosted a Gardening Workshop for Members and their kids/grandkids. We had about 20 people show up for a walk-through of all the plantings in the Garden from Tim, a bean propagation station with Daniella and a special talk from the head of Slow Food Miami, Donna Reno. As always, if there's an opportunity to do hands on, getting dirty stuff, kids really get a big kick out of it. We even had an impromptu contest to see who could pick the biggest carrot!  The kids got a chance to plant our last available space and will get to watch their produce grow over the next couple months.

Check out some of the pics from the event and feel free to comment if you're curious about any of the items pictured in the Garden.

A big thank you goes out to Donna, Tim, Daniella, Greg and the rest of the Deering Bay Staff who made the event a resounding success!

A Garden in Bloom

With our lives so busy
We fail to notice
Things around us
Things, we take for granted
Cause we know
It will be
Tomorrow and the day next

Flowers for instance,
Grow quietly,
Spreading its warmth and joy to everyone and anyone

But do we once
Stop and smell the flowers

No instead
We pluck them,
We tramp them,
We throw them,
And we walk passed them

Never do we praise its beauty,
And lovingly.

That’s because we are too absorbed
In our very own machine-like lives, that
We refuse to notice anything but ourselves!

So I plead to you now,
Stop and smell the flowers
Before it’s too late
